I am thrilled to join the Woodrow Wilson Middle School team this year as the new math instructor! As a lover of hiking, fishing, skiing, running, and biking, I decided Colorado was the place for me. I moved to Denver this summer from north shore Massachusetts, where I began my career in education. I spent four years as an educational assistant in elementary and middle school classrooms and three years as a second grade classroom teacher and a math interventionist. I have a B.S. in Psychology from UMass Amherst and a M.Ed. from American International College.
In my math classroom I want students to know that it is OK to make mistakes! Math can be challenging, and the expectation is not that students will master material on their first attempt, rather that they will identify their errors and persevere in their learning. My goal is to show students that math is much more than numbers in a textbook. It is a useful tool for understanding the world around us and an opportunity to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
I’m looking forward to a great year!
