Honoring Our Heroes: How Our School Came Together for September 11th

This past Friday marked a monumental 25th anniversary in American history. It is a milestone that reminds our entire nation of the extraordinary bravery, selflessness, and unity displayed by first responders and everyday citizens 25 years ago. Today, 9/11 stands as a national day of service, kindness, and reflection—a tradition our students and staff were deeply honored to carry forward.

To show our appreciation for the heroes who keep us safe every single day, our school lobby was transformed into a canvas of gratitude. We set up large banner papers both inside and outside the main entrance. Throughout the day, Educational Assistants brought small groups of students to write heartfelt messages, create artwork, and share their thanks. From colorful drawings to inspiring notes, the banners quickly filled with the students' genuine appreciation for community helpers.

A Special Visit from Local Heroes

The highlight of the day arrived when some of our local first responders stopped by to see the banners in person. Our School Resource Officer, Officer Steele, along with Westminster PD Sergeant Officer Salazar, came through the lobby to read what the children had created.

The officers spent time admiring the artwork, reading the notes, and personally thanking the students for their thoughtful words. Seeing our students interact so warmly with our local officers brought the true spirit of community unity right into our halls.

Connecting Our School to NYC

The impact of our students' gratitude doesn't stop in our building. We are currently working with Officer Steele on a very special next step: sending these messages across the country. A former NYC police officer who now works with Stanley Lake—and still maintains close ties with his original department—will be hand-delivering our students' notes and drawings back to his NYC precinct.

What started as a simple school reflection has grown into a powerful bridge of kindness stretching all the way to New York City. Thank you to our staff, local officers, and amazing students for showing us what it truly means to be a helper.
